What we'll talk about
What is Bharatanatyam?
Bharatanatyam is a classical Indian dance form that originated in Tamil Nadu over 2000 years ago. Known for its grace, intricate footwork, and expressive storytelling, it combines Bhava (expression), Raga (melody), Tala (rhythm), and Natya (drama). It has evolved into a globally recognized art form.
About the Workshop
This interactive workshop will explore Thala (rhythm)Â and Navarasas (expressions)Â in Bharatanatyam, helping participants understand how beats and emotions shape storytelling in this classical art form.
Teaching Namaskaram: Learn the traditional greeting and introduction to Bharatanatyam.
Exploring Thala (Rhythm): Play with a few beats and explore the nuances of rhythm in Bharatanatyam.
Understanding Abhinaya (Expression): Explore the surface level of Abhinaya by working with a few key Navarasas (emotions) and enacting a few lines of a famous poem to see how expression brings poetry and emotions to life in dance.
Â
Goal of the Workshop:
The goal of this workshop is to create a fun and engaging experience that encourages self-confidence and a sense of freedom while learning something new. You'll leave with a small takeaway—an insight into the beauty and essence of Bharatanatyam and India.
